50th Anniversary Celebrations

On the 15th October 2005 a Seminar was held at Stratford Manor Hotel in Celebration of Tae Kwon Do's 50th birthday which was on April 11th 2005. It was a great honour to have the only 9th Dan Master in Grand Master Rhee hold such an event within the Cotswold Area.

We had the usual warm up by Mr Tim Helstrip 6th Dan, doing his flamboyant routines that got us all aching before we started the actual seminar. The seminar showed all of us that there is indeed a lot we do not know and the need to study more, time permitting.

All the students were presented with a certificate with the founder's image on the top commemorating the day.

In the Evening Mr Rob Connell, 3rd Dan and Mr Dean Mansfield, 2nd Dan, attended the evening Dinner which was excellent. Before the meal a display by Master O'Neill and Master Miller and other black Belts performed a plethora of flying kicks and powerful hand techniques produced piles of broken wood, smashed breezeblocks and flying apples, which were complimented by a super display of Tong Il by the two Masters

Whilst the dinner was being consumed by the Tae Kwon Do faithful, entertainment was provided by a Base Opera Singer during the meal and a display of Korean drumming by a group of musicians in traditional Korean dress. Speeches followed the meal with some funny anecdotes from the Grand Master and the Masters. To round off the evening a disco boomed out the music with the newest Master at the turntables, Master Augustus Mitchell.

A great day and evening was had by all.
